Thomas Frank’s Tottenahm could reignite their pursuit of Manchester City defender Nathan Ake in January; Everton are also keen.

Tottenham were keen on signing Nathan Ake in the recently concluded summer transfer window. However, they failed to strike a deal with Manchester City. But, according to a report from CaughtOffside, Spurs could return for his signature when the transfer window reopens in January.

Ake made a name for himself at Bournemouth before joining Pep Guardiola’s team in the summer of 2020. He has only gone from strength to strength since and has been an integral part of the Spanish manager’s squad.

However, a lot has changed in recent months. Rayan Ait-Nouri has been doing a great job at left-back. Following his arrival, the fit-again Josko Gvardiol is expected to have a prominent role at the heart of the defence. As a result, Ake has gone down the pecking order, and he is unlikely to have much game time going forward.

With the 30-year-old entering the final two years of his contract, City were open to a potential departure this summer. Tottenham were keen on adding him to their squad before the end of the transfer window. While they were in talks with Guardiola’s team, things didn’t go according to plan.

However, Spurs haven’t given up on their pursuit and could return for his signature in the winter. Thomas Frank is looking for more quality and depth at the back. He wants someone who can cover both centre-back and left-back roles, and they consider Ake to be an ideal fit.

Frank is planning to rotate him alongside Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie. He is currently valued at around £15–20 million, and an offer in that bracket could help Spurs secure his services as City plan to trim their squad going forward.

Tottenham could face competition from Everton in January. The Toffees are interested in his services and are keeping a close eye on his situation. Given his experience and quality, the Merseyside club could look to rival the North London club for his signature.
