Newcastle United open to William Osula exit amid Aston Villa links

Aston Villa may look to sign 22-year-old Danish striker William Osula from Newcastle United in the final hours of the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, William Osula may have no future at Newcastle United beyond the summer transfer window. At least two clubs “are in talks” to sign the Danish striker ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline, having “asked Newcastle about his availability” for a late move.

An update by Simon Jones on The Daily Mail may have revealed one of those suitors, with Aston Villa pursuing a late move for Osula. The Villans are “scouring the market for forward options” in the final hours of the summer transfer window. However, PSR issues are restricting Aston Villa’s movements.

William Osula and his Newcastle United struggles

William Osula has had to bide his time since joining Newcastle United from Sheffield United last summer. A native of Aarhus, the Dane spent most of his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the youth division at Sheffield United. However, the move to Newcastle United has not been fulfilling thus far.

The 22-year-old has only 518 minutes of game time across 22 outings thus far for Newcastle United while chipping in with three goals and two assists. However, Osula’s long-term future at the Tyneside club is uncertain after they signed Nick Woltemade and secured the agreement to land Yoane Wissa. So, a summer departure from St. James’ Park is on the cards for the Danish striker, with Aston Villa considering a late move.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Aston Villa’s interest in William Osula is understandable. The Villans have not been as active as they would have liked during the summer transfer window due to PSR concerns. That has forced Aston Villa to leave the summer transfer business until the final hours, with Jadon Sancho’s loan agreement one of the latest deals at Villa Park.

However, while Sancho will reinforce the offensive unit at the West Midlands club, they are yet to land an able backup for Ollie Watkins. Considering Aston Villa will play in four competitions this season, they must have a stacked offensive unit to sustain the challenge on four fronts.

So, Osula has emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa, and Newcastle United’s stance on his exit has boosted the West Midlands club’s prospects. It will be interesting to see if the 22-year-old Danish attacking prospect moves across the Premier League in the coming hours.
