Liverpool will reportedly look to seal a deal to sign 25-year-old English international Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace before the summer transfer window shuts down.
According to an update by Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele, Marc Guehi is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds have been eager to reinforce their defensive unit by signing another centre-back in the final hours of the summer transfer window despite landing Giovanni Leoni. So, the 25-year-old Crystal Palace defender has been a target for the Merseyside outfit.
Liverpool recently submitted a bid worth £35 million to sign the Englishman, who has been keen on moving to Anfield this summer. The Premier League champions are now inching closer to signing the Crystal Palace captain, even though the Eagles are demanding a package worth £40 million. The two clubs will continue talks over a late move, and “there is a good chance” that the deal will materialise.
Marc Guehi and his impeccable Crystal Palace spell
Marc Guehi has become a household name since joining Crystal Palace from Chelsea in July 2021, having come leaps and bounds in the last four years. However, the 25-year-old has reached a crossroads in his career after entering the final 12 months of his deal with the South London club. While the player has been instrumental in Crystal Palace’s recent success, he is ready for a new adventure.
The English international has made over 150 appearances thus far for Crystal Palace while chipping in with nine goals and four assists. However, Guehi’s contract situation has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, with Liverpool among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the final hours of the summer transfer window.
Will Liverpool sign Guehi?
Liverpool’s interest in Marc Guehi makes sense. While the Reds have already signed Giovanni Leoni from Parma Calcio in the ongoing transfer window, the young Italian will likely be Virgil van Dijk’s long-term successor. However, with Ibrahima Konate entering the final 12 months of his contract with Liverpool and Joe Gomez facing an uncertain future at Anfield, the Merseyside club must look for a replacement.
Additionally, van Dijk is approaching the twilight of his career. So, Guehi has been a viable target this summer for Liverpool, with the Premier League champions recently firming up their interest by submitting a bid worth £35 million from Crystal Palace. While the Eagles are keen on recouping a package of around £40 million from the Englishman’s sale, an agreement between the two clubs is close.
The latest report has claimed that Guehi is inching closer to joining Liverpool and that “there is a good chance” that the deal will materialise. It will be interesting to see how the negotiations between Liverpool and Crystal Palace progress on the deadline day of the summer transfer window.
