Tottenham Hotspur flop Bryan Gil is reportedly closing in on a permanent move to Girona, with talks progressing well.
According to an update by Nil Sola, Bryan Gil is expected to secure a permanent move to Girona on transfer deadline day. Following his impressive loan spell last time out, the Spanish club are pushing hard to finalise the signing of the Tottenham attacker.
Gil came up the ranks at Sevilla and made quite a name for himself while playing for them. On the back of his impressive rise, Tottenham forked out a significant fee worth around €25 million to sign him back in 2021. The North London club invested in him with an eye on the future.
While they had a lot of expectations from the 24-year-old Spaniard, the move has not worked out. Gil failed to cement his spot in their squad, and he has spent a significant amount of time out on loan.
Gil spent last season on loan at Girona, featuring in 32 matches across competitions and contributing to seven goals in just over 2,300 minutes of first-team action. While he did not set the world alight, the Spanish winger was a regular under Michel until a ligament tear forced him to miss the final phase of the season.
Gil to join Girona on a permanent basis
Thanks to his consistent performances and his ability to feature anywhere in the final third, the Spanish outfit are now keen on signing him on a permanent basis. Having made a disappointing start to the new season, they feel Gil could help them turn things around.
With only a few hours left in the transfer window, they are pushing hard to secure his services. Gil still has a year left on his deal at Spurs, but he has no future at the club and is expected to terminate his contract in the next hours.
Once that is taken care of, Girona will move in to sign the 24-year-old Spanish winger on a permanent basis. Michel considers him an important part of his plans for the 2025/26 season, and the player is also keen on securing a return. He has made it quite clear that he only wants to play at Montilivi.
