Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has reportedly agreed personal terms with Fenerbahce.
Tottenham Hotspur’s midfield rebuild under Thomas Frank looks set to claim another casualty, with Ekrem Konur via X confirming that Yves Bissouma has agreed personal terms with Turkish giants Fenerbahce. Talks between the clubs are ongoing, but a transfer fee is yet to be finalised.
The writing has been on the wall for the Malian international since Spurs secured Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich earlier this summer. The Portuguese midfielder has already made a huge impact, impressing supporters with his defensive awareness, composure on the ball, and knack for winning duels in big games. With Palhinha now Frank’s first choice at the base of midfield, Bissouma has slipped further down the pecking order and is no longer viewed as part of the club’s long-term project.
Tottenham endured a difficult 2024/25 campaign in which squad depth and consistency were often called into question. This summer has therefore been about reshaping the core of the team: high-profile arrivals like Mohammed Kudus and Palhinha have raised standards, but some outgoings are just as necessary to create balance. Bissouma, who joined Spurs from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022, finds himself among those set to move on.
A deal that suits all parties
Sources close to the deal suggest Spurs are not seeking a bomb for the midfielder, whose contract runs until 2026. However, a low-money move represents a loss for a player that Spurs paid £25 million for in 2022.
If Daniel Levy and the recruitment team can secure such a figure, it would represent a respectable piece of business for a player who struggled to consistently deliver on the promise he showed during his Brighton days.
Fenerbahce, meanwhile, view Bissouma as an ideal midfield addition. His experience in the Premier League, combined with his ball-winning qualities, should make him a valuable asset as they push for domestic honours and look to make progress in Europe. With personal terms already agreed, the move now hinges on Spurs and Fenerbahce aligning on the transfer fee.
Looking ahead for Spurs
While Bissouma’s departure will close a chapter, it shows Spurs’ clarity of vision heading into the new season. Thomas Frank wants midfielders who fit his dynamic, adaptable system, and with Palhinha anchoring the middle, the club is confident it has upgraded the position.
Supporters may feel disappointed that Bissouma never quite hit the heights expected of him at Tottenham, but the club’s willingness to move decisively shows a commitment to maintaining competitiveness in both the Premier League and Champions League.
If the deal is completed in the coming days, Spurs will pocket useful funds while giving Bissouma the chance to revive his career in a new environment, a move that looks set to work for all sides.
