Hamburg are closing in on a loan move for promising Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic, as he needs to gain experience in one of the top five leagues.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Luka Vuskovic is closing in on a loan move to Hamburg, as Tottenham are willing to let him leave to help him gain experience. The defender only arrived in north London in a pre-agreed deal, but the Spurs coaching staff believe he needs steady minutes under his belt in one of the top leagues.
Newly promoted sides often look at players who are value for money and ones who could help them in the immediate term to help with survival. Such is the case with Hamburg, who were promoted back to the Bundesliga after a considerable period in the lower league.
They had pondered a loan move for Luka Vuskovic, as they have been in talks with Tottenham to help him with regular minutes. Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Croatian defender is now close to joining the newly promoted Bundesliga side, and despite the story coming out this morning, Vuskovic did make the bench in the win over Manchester City at the Etihad.
Tottenham had given Hamburg a deadline of sort to get a deal in place, and it appears the German side has obliged to the request. The Bundesliga team are now closing in on an agreement with Spurs to take the defender on loan, to help him gain valuable first-team minutes in a top-five league.
The 18-year-old Tottenham wonderkid is also open to the move, which may see an agreement accelerate in the coming period. The teenager is seen as a highly rated defender, although the club thinks he is not currently ready and may be an option for the future.
Tottenham have depth in their defence
Tottenham have enough depth to deal with the absence of Vuskovic, as the 18-year-old is not about to usurp the likes of Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven off their perch. Thomas Frank also has Kevin Danso and the experienced Ben Davies in his squad, which provides him with good enough senior options.
However, once the 18-year-old Tottenham wonderkid leaves, the club might act again in the market and try to sign a new defender who helps them on an immediate basis. As for Vuskovic, he will need plenty of regular minutes under his belt and then make a return to north London next year to try and make an impact.
