Inter Milan may look to re-sign 29-year-old Cameroonian international Andre Onana from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by The Sun, Andre Onana is the subject of interest from Inter Milan. The Serie A giants are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. So, the 29-year-old Manchester United shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the Nerazzurri.
Cristian Chivu is keen on signing a new first-choice goalkeeper in the summer transfer window, with Inter Milan in talks with Royal Antwerp over a deal for Senne Lammens, interestingly a target for Manchester United. However, Onana has also emerged as a target for the Italian outfit.
Andre Onana and his Manchester United misery
Andre Onana has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Manchester United from Inter Milan in a deal worth £47 million in July 2023. Erik ten Hag’s decision to replace the legendary David de Gea with the 29-year-old shot-stopper invited polarising views. While the former Ajax star has shown flashes of brilliance in his two campaigns thus far with Manchester United, he has also been error-prone between the sticks.
The Cameroonian international has turned out 100 times thus far for Manchester United while keeping 24 clean sheets and conceding 148 goals. Meanwhile, Onana faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford after Ruben Amorim excluded him from the matchday squad for the Premier League 2025/26 season-opening game against Arsenal.
What next?
Recent reports have suggested that Ruben Amorim has sealed Andre Onana’s fate, with the Manchester United manager ready to sanction his departure in the summer transfer window. A return to Serie A may be on the cards, with Inter Milan contemplating a move.
Cristian Chivu is keen on signing a new first-choice goalkeeper for Inter Milan, even though Yann Sommer has been exceptional since replacing Andre Onana two years ago. Widespread reports have linked Inter Milan with Senne Lammens. However, the Belgian goalkeeper is also a target for Manchester United as they look to replace Onana.
Meanwhile, it is unclear how much Manchester United will demand if talks with Inter Milan begin. The Red Devils will unlikely recoup anything close to the £47 million they paid to sign the 29-year-old Cameroonian international.
