West Ham United in transfer tussle to sign Eljif Elmas

West Ham United will reportedly look to sign 25-year-old North Macedonian international Eljif Elmas from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window.

According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Eljif Elmas is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 25-year-old RB Leipzig utility man has emerged as a target for the East London outfit.

However, the Hammers are not alone in the battle for the Skopje-born midfielder’s signature. West Ham will compete with Besiktas, Napoli, and Torino in a four-way battle to sign Elmas from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window. The Bundesliga giants may cash in on the player this month.

Eljif Elmas and his Bundesliga woes

Eljif Elmas has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining RB Leipzig from Napoli in January 2024. A native of Skopje, the 25-year-old spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at Rabotnicki Skopje. However, the player rose in prominence during his spell with Napoli, although his stint in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig has not been fruitful.

The North Macedonia international has managed only 363 minutes of game time in 22 outings thus far for the Bundesliga outfit, and he spent the second half of the 2024/25 season with Torino. The Serie A outfit will be in a four-way battle for Elmas’s signature in the summer transfer window, with West Ham United also among the prospective suitors vying for his services.

London calling?

West Ham United’s interest in Eljif Elmas is understandable. The Hammers are scouring the market for a versatile midfielder this summer after Carlos Soler failed to make his mark during his loan spell in the 2024/25 season. Additionally, Guido Rodriguez, Tomas Soucek, James Ward-Prowse, and Edson Alvarez face an uncertain future at West Ham.

Several candidates, including Andrey Santos, have emerged on West Ham’s radar, with Elmas also a viable target for the East London outfit. The former Napoli utility man’s ability to play as a midfielder and a winger makes him an appealing option for West Ham.

However, West Ham will face stiff competition from Besiktas, Napoli, and Torino for the 25-year-old North Macedonian footballer in the summer transfer window. With RB Leipzig ready to part ways with Elmas, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him.
