Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international Nathan Collins from Brentford.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Nathan Collins. The three Premier League bigwigs are eager to bolster their defensive units by landing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. However, while the 24-year-old Brentford defender has emerged as a target, the Bees are reluctant to part ways with him.
Nathan Collins and his time with Brentford
Nathan Collins has been one of the most underrated defenders in the Premier League since joining Brentford from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £23 million in July 2023. The Irishman has gone from strength to strength in the last two years, having been a mainstay at the back for his club and country.
Collins has turned out 78 times thus far for the Bees while chipping in with four goals and six assists. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old defender’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several Premier League clubs. Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
A man in demand
Liverpool’s interest in Collins makes sense. The Reds are scouring the market for a centre-back amid uncertainties surrounding Ibrahima Konate’s long-term future, as he has entered the final 12 months of his contract. Additionally, Virgil van Dijk is approaching the twilight of his career, and Joe Gomez has struggled with fitness issues throughout his spell with Liverpool. So, Collins is a viable target.
Meanwhile, the Republic of Ireland international has been on Manchester United’s radar for a long time. However, the continued interest is baffling, considering Ruben Amorim has a stacked central defensive unit. But with Harry Maguire on the wrong side of 30, Manchester United can mull over signing a new centre-back, with Nathan Collins an option worth considering.
As for Tottenham Hotspur, Cristian Romero’s long-term future is uncertain, even though the Lilywhites are eager to tie him to a new contract amid his links with Atletico Madrid. So, the North London club must scour the market for a potential replacement, with the Irish centre-back emerging as a viable target.
However, convincing Brentford to part ways with Collins will be a tall order, as the Bees do not want to lose more pivotal figures. Several Premier League clubs have ravaged the West London club this summer, and securing the 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international’s services will be an uphill task.
