Liverpool will reportedly move on to other targets if they fail to sign 25-year-old Swedish international Alexander Isak from Newcastle United by next week.
According to an update by reputed Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Alexander Isak is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing another striker in the summer transfer window closes, despite Hugo Ekitike’s early impact. So, the 25-year-old Newcastle United centre-forward is the Merseyside club’s priority target.
The Swede has told Newcastle United that he will not play for the Tyneside outfit again to force a move to Liverpool. However, despite “mutual interest” between Isak and Liverpool, the Premier League champions have “set a deadline”, and they will pursue other targets if they do not seal the deal by next week.
Alexander Isak and the toxic player power flashpoint
Alexander Isak has been one of the talking points of the summer transfer window, as he has created a toxic situation at Newcastle United. The infamous instance of player power has seen him attempt to force his move to Liverpool. The 25-year-old has been one of the best strikers in the world since joining Newcastle United from Real Sociedad, often scoring goals for fun in the last three years.
The Swedish international has turned out over 100 times thus far for Newcastle United while amassing 62 goals and 11 assists. However, Isak may have played his final game for the Magpies after missing pre-season training and telling the club that he will not represent the team again. The player wants to join Liverpool in the summer transfer window, with the Reds pushing hard for a big-money deal.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak is perplexing yet understandable. While Hugo Ekitike has been a revelation in his early days as a Liverpool player, Darwin Nunez’s departure has compelled the Merseyside club to pursue another striker. Meanwhile, the Newcastle United rebel is a market opportunity that is too good to refuse.
While the Magpies have been determined to block the 25-year-old Swede’s summer exit, he wants to force a move to Liverpool. However, the Premier League champions have set a deadline to sign Isak despite “mutual interest” between the two parties.
So, if the Reds fail to sign Isak by next week, they will move on to other targets, making the coming days critical for the Merseyside outfit and the Swedish striker. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Isak.
