Chelsea and Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old Italian international Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG in the summer transfer window.
According to an update by French journalist Sebastien Vidal, Chelsea and Manchester United are keen on signing Gianluigi Donnarumma. The two Premier League bigwigs are keen on bolstering their first-team squad by landing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. So, the 26-year-old Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper has emerged as a target for them.
Chelsea and Manchester United have submitted enquiries for a possible move in the summer transfer window. With PSG installing Lucas Chevalier as the new first-choice goalkeeper, the former AC Milan wonderkid will likely depart from Parc des Princes in the coming weeks. So, both Premier League giants are “looking to take advantage of his situation for a reasonable deal” this summer.
Gianluigi Donnarumma and a revered career
Gianluigi Donnarumma has been one of the most accomplished goalkeepers in the world in the past decade. The 26-year-old grabbed eyeballs when he broke into the first-team squad at AC Milan as a budding teenager, drawing comparisons with his namesake and hero Gianluigi Buffon. He enjoyed a productive stint with the Rossoneri before departing as a free agent in July 2021, joining PSG in a Bosman move.
The Italian international has turned out over 150 times thus far for PSG while keeping 52 clean sheets and conceding 152 goals. However, Donnarumma’s long-term future at Parc des Princes is uncertain, as talks with PSG over a new contract have not progressed. With the former AC Milan prodigy in the final 12 months of his deal, the situation has alerted several high-profile clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United.
Premier League adventure beckons?
Manchester United’s interest in Gianluigi Donnarumma makes sense. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a goalkeeper this summer due to Andre Onana’s frustrating, error-prone displays since arriving from Inter Milan two years ago. So, Donnarumma has emerged as a viable target for Manchester United. The Red Devils have now submitted an enquiry over a possible summer move.
As for Chelsea, Robert Sanchez has been inconsistent since moving to Stamford Bridge from Brighton & Hove Albion. While the Blues have a stacked goalkeeping unit, Enzo Maresca can do with a top-class goalkeeper. So, Donnarumma is an option worth considering, with Chelsea also launching a move to sign him.
With PSG ready to cash in on Donnarumma, a summer move to the Premier League may be on the cards. Chelsea and Manchester United are “looking to take advantage of his situation for a reasonable deal” this summer, as the 26-year-old Italian international has lost his spot to Lucas Chevalier.
