Brentford unwilling to sell Nathan Collins amid Liverpool links

Brentford will unlikely sell 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international Nathan Collins in the summer transfer window amid his links with Premier League champions Liverpool.

According to a report by Football Insider, Nathan Collins is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 24-year-old Brentford defender has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.

However, the Premier League champions face a tall order to land the Irishman in the summer transfer window, as convincing Brentford to part ways with him will be an uphill task. The latest update has echoed those sentiments, suggesting Keith Andrews is reluctant to sanction another sale of a pivotal figure.

Nathan Collins and his progress

Nathan Collins has established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in the Premier League since joining Brentford from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £23 million in July 2023. The 24-year-old has made significant progress in the last two years, becoming a mainstay at the back for the West London outfit.

Collins has turned out 77 times thus far for the Bees while chipping in with four goals and six assists. Meanwhile, the Irish defender’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several Premier League clubs. Liverpool will be among the prospective suitors vying for the Republic of Ireland international’s signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Liverpool’s interest in Nathan Collins is understandable. The Reds are scouring the market for a centre-back after allowing Jarell Quansah to join Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the summer transfer window. Additionally, Ibrahima Konate faces an uncertain future at Anfield after entering the final 12 months of his contract with Liverpool.

With Virgil van Dijk approaching the twilight of his career and Joe Gomez struggling with fitness issues, Liverpool must sign at least one centre-back this summer. Several candidates, including Marc Guehi, have emerged on the Merseyside club’s radar, with Collins also a viable target. However, a summer move for the 24-year-old Irishman will unlikely see the light of day.

With Brentford already losing Thomas Frank, Christian Norgaard, and Bryan Mbeumo and on the cusp of parting ways with Yoane Wissa this summer, Keith Andrews is reluctant to sell any other player. So, the Bees will unlikely sanction Collins’s sale, forcing Liverpool to look elsewhere for a new centre-back.
