Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are reportedly interested in acquiring the services of 26-year-old AC Milan wide man Alexis Saelemaekers in the summer transfer window.
According to a report from Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Aston Villa are keen on signing Alexis Saelemaekers as Unai Emery seeks more quality on the flanks. The West Midlands outfit have expressed interest in the AC Milan right-winger, and they could soon come forward with an offer.
Saelemaekers came up the ranks at RSC Anderlecht and made quite a name for himself while playing for their first team before joining AC Milan at the start of 2020. While it was an initial loan deal, the move was made permanent the following summer.
The 26-year-old has done a decent job for the Serie A giants, but he has failed to cement a spot in the starting XI, and of late, he has spent a significant amount of time out on loan. He spent the 2024/25 season on loan at AS Roma.
Alexis Saelemaekers was involved in a total of 31 matches across competitions and ended up contributing towards 14 goals in just over 1,800 minutes of first-team action. While the Belgian international is back at his parent club and still has two years left on his deal, his future is up in the air.
Aston Villa could make a move for Saelemaekers
The versatile Belgian wide man does not seem to be an integral part of AC Milan’s plan, and they would be open to a potential transfer away from the club. Aston Villa have emerged as a potential destination for the 26-year-old.
The Birmingham-based club have signed Evann Guessand to bolster their attack, but Emery still wants more quality and depth on the flanks. While Alexis Saelemaekers prefers playing out wide on the right flank, he is capable enough to feature in any role on either flank, and the Spanish manager loves working with such versatile players.
They have already knocked on AC Milan’s door to express their interest in the Belgian forward and could soon come up with an offer to try and prise him away. Given his status in the Serie A club’s squad, Aston Villa should be able to secure his services for a bargain fee.
