Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of PSG attacking sensation Bradley Barcola, but he will have to force an exit.
According to Graeme Bailey via TBR, Liverpool are keen on signing Bradley Barcola as they look to add more firepower to their attack. While he isn’t a guaranteed starter under Luis Enrique, he remains an integral part of their plans, and the club have no intention of negotiating his departure. The player would have to push for a move, and even then, it would take a massive fee to make it happen.
Barcola’s sensational rise
Barcola came up the ranks at Olympique Lyon and made quite a name for himself while playing for their first-team. On the back of his sensational performance, PSG forked out £39 million to add him to their squad back in 2023.
He has only gone from strength to strength since and has established himself as a key figure in the team. Last season, the 22-year-old versatile forward was involved in a total of 64 games across competitions and ended up contributing towards 42 goals (21 goals, 21 assists).
While he is behind Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the pecking order, the 22-year-old is still quite an important part of their squad. His impressive performances have put him on Liverpool’s radar.
Can Liverpool sign Barcola this summer?
The Reds are keen on further reinforcing their attack ahead of the new season. With the Alexander Isak deal looking unlikely, they could shift their attention towards Barcola. However, they won’t find it easy to strike a deal with PSG, who have no intentions to sell and are in a comfortable position with his contract running until 2028.
While speaking to TBR about his situation, Bailey said: “Bradley is a bit like Rodrygo (another player of interest to Liverpool) – too good not to ask about.
“There is some interest from Liverpool. They are one of the sides who have a long-standing interest.
“Intermediaries have been busy, checking on potential clubs he could join. Much would depend, like Rodrygo, on the player pushing. Liverpool won’t just bid for no reason. If they think the player wants to move they may look to do a deal.
“As it stands PSG are strong in their stance – Barcola is not for sale and it would take crazy money to get him. £100m plus. However, if the player pushes, I am told it could become interesting. But PSG insist they have heard nothing.”
The Reds certainly have an interest in him, but they won’t table an offer unless the player expresses a desire to move to Anfield. Meanwhile, PSG maintain their stance that he is not for sale. While that could change if the player pushes for a move, it would still take a bid in excess of £100 million.
The hefty price tag won’t make things easy for the Merseyside club. There’s no doubt about the 22-year-old’s quality, but given PSG’s stance and the finances involved, a deal looks highly unlikely.
