Dion Lopy is reportedly closing in on joining Everton from Spanish club UD Almeria in a deal worth €25 million in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Dion Lopy has been the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a holding midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 23-year-old UD Almeria midfielder has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.
The Toffees are in advanced talks to seal a deal worth €25 million to sign the African midfielder in the summer transfer window. Lopy is “already preparing for his departure”, and “unless there is an unexpected turn, the transfer will be formalised in the coming days” after Almeria accepted the player’s impending exit.
Who is Dion Lopy?
Dion Lopy has been a rare bright spot since joining UD Almeria from Stade Reims in August 2023. The 23-year-old midfielder’s debut season with the Spanish second-division club ended in relegation from La Liga for the Cowboys, as they finished 19th in the league standings.
Almeria then failed to secure promotion from the Spanish second division in the 2024/25 season. However, Lopy has remained a consistent performer throughout, having turned out 73 times thus far for UD Almeria while chipping in with one goal and two assists. Meanwhile, the Senegalese midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Everton will likely be his next destination in the summer transfer window.
Premier League move beckons
Everton’s interest in Dion Lopy makes sense. The Toffees have been scouring the market for a holding midfielder in the summer transfer window after parting ways with Abdoulaye Doucoure as a free agent. Additionally, Idrissa Gueye is in the twilight of his career, compelling David Moyes to possibly begin phasing the Senegalese midfielder out as a regular starter.
So, Everton can do with a young midfielder who can serve the Merseyside club for the long haul. Several candidates, including Josh Brownhill, have emerged on Everton’s radar, with Lopy also a viable target. They are closing in on sealing a deal worth €25 million to sign the 23-year-old midfielder from UD Almeria in the summer transfer window.
Talks between Everton and the Spanish second-division club have advanced, and a deal worth €25 million is on the cusp of completion. It will be interesting to see how the Senegalese international fares in the 2025/26 season once he joins Everton in a deal worth €25 million in the summer transfer window.
