Tottenham could end up losing out on Illia Zabarnyi despite Bournemouth reportedly accepting a €70 million offer for the defender.
Tottenham’s hopes of landing Illia Zabarny could be dashed by the player’s desire to join PSG. As per Football Transfers, Spurs have had a €70 million bid accepted by Bournemouth, who may now be forced to sell the 22-year-old Premier League ace to the reigning European Champions in France.
Thomas Frank wants the club to reinforce the squad to their best ability, with not all their pursuits have turned out to be a success. For now, Spurs have made two major signings in Mohammed Kudus from West Ham on a permanent deal, and Joao Palhinha, who has joined on loan from Bayern Munich.
There have been a few misses, including Morgan Gibbs-White, and now it appears they can add 22-year-old Premier League ace Illia Zabarnyi to that list. The Ukrainian defender was primed to leave Bournemouth this summer as Spurs were ready to make a €70 million offer for the defender.
The report states that Bournemouth had indeed accepted a €70 million offer from Tottenham for Zabarnyi, but the player has his heart set on joining PSG. The reigning European champions had set their sights on the 22-year-old Premier League ace for a while, but a breakthrough with Bournemouth is yet to be found.
Tottenham had hoped to land the defender for their side, and Bournemouth had hoped Zabarnyi would accept a move to north London. Had he chosen Spurs, the Cherries would have received a club-record fee for a single player, but now they might be forced to sell him to PSG.
PSG set to win the Illia Zabarnyi race
Tottenham are only the latest English side to have seen a move rejected by Zabarnyi. The 22-year-old defender reportedly turned down approaches from Chelsea and Liverpool as per previous reports, which further reiterated the claim that he only wants to join PSG.
PSG have not found an agreement with Bournemouth, although that could arrive in the coming period. The Parisians are probably thinking about replacing Lucas Beraldo with Zabarnyi, but the Ukrainian is likely to be the long-term successor to the experienced Marquinhos.
