Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Middlesbrough defensive midfielder Hayden Hackney.
According to a report from GiveMeSport, Hayden Hackney seems keen on playing in the Premier League, and he is willing to wait for Tottenham to make an offer. While Middlesbrough have already agreed a deal with Ipswich Town, the player is in no rush to decide his future amidst strong interest from Thomas Frank’s team.
Hackney has been a part of the Boro setup since his childhood days. He came up the ranks at some pace and was promoted to their first team in the summer of 2022. Over the years, he has only gone from strength to strength and of late, he has been one of their mainstays.
Last season, the 23-year-old defensive midfielder was involved in a total of 44 matches, and he even contributed towards eight goals. While he prefers playing in the holding role, he did put in some impressive performances in a more advanced position.
While he still has two years left on his deal, his work hasn’t gone unnoticed, and multiple top clubs are keen on his signature. Hackney seems keen on making a move away from Middlesbrough as he believes he is ready for the next step in his career.
Ipswich have agreed terms to sign Hackney
Ipswich Town are one of the clubs that are interested in signing the 23-year-old. They are looking to secure an immediate return to the top flight, having been relegated last time out, and feel the English youth international could help their cause.
They submitted an offer worth £20 million earlier this week and seem to have reached an agreement with the Boro. Ipswich have the green light to discuss personal terms with the player. However, Hackney is in no rush to put pen to paper.
Hackney is ready to wait for Spurs
He is yet to make a decision on his future and is more than willing to wait for Tottenham to make a move. The 23-year-old is well aware of the North London club’s interest in his signature and is willing to snub Ipswich if an opportunity to join Thomas Frank’s team comes up.
While Spurs have done some great business so far this summer, they did miss out on Morgan Gibbs-White. With the new season closing in, Daniel Levy wants to ensure Frank has everything he needs to succeed at the club. The former Brentford seems to be keen on having another option in midfield. As a result, they could certainly make a move for Hackney in the coming days.
