Newcastle United turn attention to Rodrigo Muniz

Newcastle United, West Ham United line up Rayan Vitor Simplico move.

Newcastle United will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Brazilian striker Rodrigo Muniz from Fulham in the summer transfer window if they fail to land Benjamin Sesko.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, Rodrigo Muniz is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 24-year-old Fulham centre-forward has emerged as the latest target on the West London club’s radar.

The South American attacker is a fallback option for Newcastle United amid uncertainties surrounding the viability of beating Manchester United to Benjamin Sesko’s signature. So, the 2024/25 EFL Cup winners have submitted an informal enquiry over a possible summer move, with Fulham demanding around £40 million to part ways with him in the summer transfer window.

Rodrigo Muniz and his situation

Rodrigo Muniz has had to be patient since joining Fulham from Flamengo in August 2021. The 24-year-old has shown his potential since enjoying his breakthrough at Craven Cottage in the 2023/24 season. However, he was in and out of the starting lineup last term, with Raul Jimenez being the first-choice striker.

That meant Muniz did not even manage 1,500 minutes of game time across 36 appearances in all competitions. However, he contributed to 13 goals by finding the back of the net 11 times and providing two assists. Meanwhile, the Brazilian striker’s stock in the market is high, with Newcastle United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Newcastle United’s interest in Rodrigo Muniz is understandable. The Magpies are scouring the market for a striker this summer after parting ways with Callum Wilson as a free agent. In addition, the 2024/25 EFL Cup winners are in a spot of bother over Alexander Isak’s long-term future, with the Swedish international ready to embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window.

Several candidates, including Benjamin Sesko, have emerged on Newcastle United’s radar, with Muniz also a viable target. While Sesko and Yoane Wissa are the top options on the Tyneside club’s wishlist, they may miss out on both, making Muniz a fallback.

Meanwhile, Fulham will demand a sizeable fee to part ways with Muniz, slapping a price tag of £40 million on him. With Newcastle United submitting an informal enquiry over a summer move, it will be interesting to see if they firm up their interest in him.
