Manchester United and Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing 22-year-old Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window.
According to an update by reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Benjamin Sesko is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old RB Leipzig centre-forward has emerged as a target for the Premier League outfit.
Meanwhile, an update by reputed French journalist Santi Aouna has revealed that Newcastle United will soon submit a bid worth €72-74 million to sign the youngster in the summer transfer window. However, talkSPORT reporter Anil Kandola has suggested that Sesko would prefer to join Manchester United, but Newcastle United “would be considered more in the driving seat due to financial flexibility”.
Benjamin Sesko and his excellent Bundesliga journey
Benjamin Sesko has come leaps and bounds since joining RB Leipzig from sister club Red Bull Salzburg in July 2023. The 22-year-old was not hot off the blocks, as Lois Openda was the first-choice striker for the Bundesliga club in the first half of the 2023/24 season. However, Sesko has not looked back in the last 18 months, becoming a mainstay in the final third for Die Roten Bullen.
The Slovenian international was excellent in the 2024/25 campaign, contributing to 27 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 21 times and providing six assists. Meanwhile, Sesko’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Manchester United and Newcastle United are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Manchester United’s interest in Benjamin Sesko is understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a striker this summer after Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to score enough goals in the 2024/25 season. So, Sesko has emerged as a viable target for Manchester United, and they “have presented the player with clear figures and their project”.
As for Newcastle United, the Magpies are in a spot of bother over Alexander Isak’s long-term future. The Swedish international wants to join Liverpool in the summer transfer window, forcing the Tyneside outfit to identify Sesko as a potential replacement. Newcastle United will soon submit a bid worth €72-74 million to sign the 22-year-old RB Leipzig striker this summer.
However, Anil Kandola suggests the Slovenian international wants to join Manchester United instead of Newcastle United in the summer transfer window. But with the Magpies in the driving seat, it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can land Sesko’s signature in the coming weeks.
