Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United have received a massive boost in their pursuit of RB Leipzig attacking mainstay Benjamin Sesko.
Newcastle United are keen on adding more firepower to their attack in the summer transfer window, and they are in talks with Benjamin Sesko as they look to convince him about a potential move to St. James’ Park.
According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, the player is open to a move to the Tyneside club, which is a massive boost for the Magpies as they look to beat Manchester United to his signature. While he is ready to hold talks with Eddie Howe’s team, Sesko is assessing all options at his disposal.
The 22-year-old Slovenian striker has only gone from strength to strength since joining RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 from sister club Red Bull Salzburg. He is widely regarded as one of the best young forwards in the world.
Benjamin Sesko was involved in 45 matches last season, and he scored 21 goals and also bagged six assists. While his contract at the German club runs until 2029, he could be on the move this summer, amidst interest from some of the biggest clubs in England.
Newcastle United making moves to sign Sesko
Newcastle United are one of the clubs that are keen on signing the 22-year-old. The Magpies have stepped up their interest in Sesko following Alexander Isak’s decision to push for a move away. The Swedish international has put in a transfer request, and he is quite high on Liverpool’s wishlist.
With the former Real Sociedad star’s future uncertain, Newcastle United have identified Sesko as an ideal alternative. They have reached out to his representatives regarding a potential transfer and have received a positive response.
The player has already given the green light to talks with the Tyneside club. While he likes the idea of joining Newcastle United, they are still far from reaching an agreement. Leipzig are reluctant to lose out on one of their best players, but they won’t stand in his way if their asking price of £70 million is met.
Before the Magpies can focus on striking a deal with the German club, they need to convince Sesko about the move. Meanwhile, they could face competition from Manchester United, who have held talks to sign the Slovenian striker.
Ruben Amorim wants a proven goalscorer to be leading their line, and Sesko could certainly help Manchester United’s cause. However, the financial side of things could complicate matters for the Red Devils.
