Jesse Derry set to join Chelsea from Crystal Palace

Chelsea will sign 18-year-old English attacking sensation Jesse Derry from fellow London Premier League club Crystal Palace this week.

According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Jesse Derry will be the latest highly-rated prospect to join Chelsea. The Blues have struck an agreement to sign the 18-year-old attacking sensation from Crystal Palace, beating eight European clubs to his signature.

The Englishman was closing in on moving to Germany before Chelsea swooped in and hijacked the move. Derry will undergo his medical tests on Friday before formally becoming the latest wonderkid to become a player for the West London club.

Who is Jesse Derry?

Jesse Derry is the latest highly-rated prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. The teenage sensation has spent his formative years thus far in England, rising through the ranks at Crystal Palace. However, the youngster has yet to break into the first-team squad at the South London club and currently plies his trade for the Eagles’ under-18 side.

The English attacking sensation has also made his mark in age-group international football, turning out three times thus far for England’s under-19 team. Meanwhile, Derry is a versatile winger who prefers playing on the right flank but can also be as efficient on the left wing. So, it is hardly surprising that the young attacker emerged as a target for well-known clubs across Europe.

Move across London beckons

Widespread reports heavily linked Jesse Derry with a move to Germany, and eight European clubs have been attempting to secure his services in the summer transfer window. However, the player will join Chelsea this week, with the West London club beating the competition to his signature.

Chelsea’s interest in Derry is understandable, considering the Blues have been active in the market to sign the most promising young prospects in the world under the current regime. Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez are arriving at Stamford Bridge this summer, and recent reports have linked Chelsea with Bright Ede.

As for the move for Derry, Chelsea hijacked a German move for the 18-year-old English attacking sensation, and he will undergo his medical checks on Friday. However, it is unclear if he will join Enzo Maresca’s squad, play for a youth team, or embark on a loan spell away from the West London club.
