Eddie Howe prioritising Benjamin Sesko move for Newcastle United

Newcastle United will reportedly prioritise signing 22-year-old Slovenian international Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig if Alexander Isak departs from St. James’ Park this summer.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Benjamin Sesko is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Alexander Isak’s future. So, the 22-year-old RB Leipzig centre-forward has emerged as the priority target for the Tyneside club.

Sesko is not the only striker on Newcastle United’s wishlist, and they are also keeping an eye on eight other attackers. Meanwhile, reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has suggested that the 2024/25 EFL Cup winners are ready to present their project to Sesko, “as they want to go big” to sign him.

Benjamin Sesko and his rise as a highly-rated striker

Benjamin Sesko has been one of the best young strikers in the world since emerging as a world-class prospect at Red Bull Salzburg. The youngster joined Salzburg’s sister club RB Leipzig in July 2023, and his stock has continued to rise. The 22-year-old took some time to become a regular starter at the Red Bull Arena, but he has become a productive contributor in the last 18 months.

The Slovenian international was excellent in the 2024/25 campaign, contributing to 27 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 21 times and providing six assists. Meanwhile, Sesko’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Newcastle United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Will Newcastle United sign Sesko?

Newcastle United’s interest in Benjamin Sesko is understandable. The Magpies are scouring the market for a striker this summer amid uncertainties surrounding Alexander Isak’s long-term future. The Swedish international has dropped a bombshell this week, letting Newcastle United know that he wants to embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window.

Widespread reports have suggested that Isak wants to join Liverpool, and the situation has forced the Tyneside outfit to seek a replacement. Sesko has thus emerged as a target, with Newcastle United prioritising securing his services if Isak leaves in the coming weeks.

While the 2024/25 EFL Cup winners also have other options on their wishlist, they will prefer to sign Sesko. Meanwhile, Newcastle United will soon present the project to the 22-year-old Slovenian international, and they will hope to turn his head by intensifying the talks to sign him.
