Douglas Luiz increasingly unlikely to join West Ham United

West Ham United have been linked with a move for Douglas Luiz, but they are unlikely to be able to afford him in the summer transfer window.

According to an update by French journalist Sebastien Vidal, West Ham United do not have the finances to sign Douglas Luiz, and they will also fail to afford his wages. It will be interesting to see where the 27-year-old ends up.

The Brazilian international needs to move to a club where he will be able to compete at a high level and play regularly, and recent reports have suggested he wants to join Tottenham. The move to Juventus has not worked out for Luiz, and he will look to get his career back on track. Moving to West Ham might not appeal to him either. However, returning to the Premier League could be ideal for him.

The 27-year-old played some of his best football in the Premier League with Aston Villa, and returning to England might help him regain his form and confidence. It will be interesting to see if West Ham decide to move on to other targets. The Hammers have recently sanctioned the departure of Mohammed Kudus, but they still may not be able to afford big-money signings.

West Ham need quality players

West Ham had a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, and they will look to bounce back strongly. Signing quality players is the only way forward for them, and they will need to improve their midfield and attack if they want to do well next season. They looked incapable of controlling games in the middle of last season, and a reliable midfielder like Luiz would have been ideal.

In addition, the East London outfit need to invest in a striker who can score goals consistently. Niclas Fullkrug was quite mediocre for West Ham last season, and he struggled with injury problems as well. They need to replace him this summer.

In midfield, Edson Alvarez is expected to secure a move away from the club. They will need to bring in an upgrade on the Mexican international. The Brazilian midfielder would have been the ideal acquisition for them, but the deal is highly unlikely.
