Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri is reportedly on the verge of joining Leeds United, with the newly promoted Premier League club striking an agreement to sign him.
According to an update by reputed French journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Lucas Perri is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Lyon shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the newly promoted Premier League club.
The 2024/25 EFL Championship winners have struck an agreement with the Ligue 1 club to sign the South American goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. Perri “is leaving the tour in Germany and flying to England”. He will undergo his medical tests soon before formally completing the move.
Lucas Perri has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Ligue 1 since joining Lyon from Botafogo in January 2024. The Valinhos native spent his formative years in Brazil and graduated from the youth division at Sao Paulo FC. However, the 27-year-old has risen in prominence in the last 18 months after his exploits for Lyon.
The Brazilian goalkeeper has turned out nearly 50 times thus far for Lyon while keeping 15 clean sheets and conceding 63 goals. However, Perri’s time at the Ligue 1 club will end soon, with Leeds United finalising the agreement to secure his services in the summer transfer window.
Premier League adventure beckons
Leeds United’s interest in Lucas Perri made sense. The Whites have been scouring the market for a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window due to Illan Meslier’s error-prone displays between the sticks. Several candidates, including Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, have thus emerged on Leeds United’s radar.
However, the 2024/25 EFL Championship winners have zeroed in on Perri as their new first-choice goalkeeper. Leeds United and Lyon have struck an agreement over a possible move, and the West Yorkshire outfit will reportedly fork out €15 million to secure his services in the summer transfer window.
