Viktor Gyokeres set to join Arsenal as deal agreed

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have finally reached an agreement to sign Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP.

Arsenal have been working on the potential signing of Viktor Gyokeres for weeks. While they had the green light from the player, reaching an agreement with Sporting CP proved to be a major challenge. Both clubs failed to find common ground on the final fee, causing negotiations to drag on.

According to Fabrizio Romano, all parties involved have finally reached a verbal agreement for the transfer to go through. Viktor Gyokeres is all set to complete his move to Arsenal in the coming days. He only wanted to join Mikel Arteta’s team and will be signing a five-year deal with the North London club.

Gyokeres hasn’t looked back since joining Sporting in the summer of 2023 from Coventry City. He featured in a total of 97 matches for the Portuguese giants and ended up contributing towards 125 goals (97 goals, 28 assists).

His performances caught the attention of quite a few top clubs. While there was a lot of interest in his signature, Arsenal took the lead in the race quite early. They were involved in talks with the player’s camp, and after securing an agreement with him on personal terms, they knocked on the doors of Sporting.

While they were hoping to secure his services for €60-70 million, negotiations with the Portuguese club were not that straightforward. Sporting were looking to make the most out of any deal, and at one point, it looked like the deal could collapse as both clubs were not willing to budge on their stance.

Arsenal finally strike deal to sign Gyokeres

However, with the player making it clear that he only wanted Arsenal and refusing to return to the Portuguese club for pre-season, they didn’t really have many options to play with. As a result, Sporting have finally agreed a deal with the North London club.

There is a verbal agreement in place between all parties involved. Arsenal will be paying €63.5 million as a fixed fee with another €10 million as add-ons. His agent has reduced his commission in order to ensure Gyokeres gets his desired move. He is set to pen a long-term deal and should soon undergo a medical at his new club.
