Manchester United stepping up interest in Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United are stepping up their chase of Benjamin Sesko as Ruben Amorim wants a new striker in place after signing to strengthen his attack.

According to Absolut Fussball, Manchester United are moving with intent in pursuit of Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian striker is still on the market following his failure to join Arsenal earlier, as Ruben Amorim over at Old Trafford wants a new striker in place to strengthen his attacking setup.

Manchester United fans will have been relieved after their club finally found an agreement for key target Bryan Mbeumo. The Cameroonian winger joined the club and followed Matheus Cunha as their second senior signing of the summer, as Ruyben Amorim could shift his attention towards a striker.

The centre-forward role has been a bit complex for Amorim, with both his current options in Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee having underperformed. Moreover, Manchester United have found it tough going in the market to recruit the right player after they failed to lure Liam Delap and then Viktor Gyokeres.

They have other names like Nicolas Jackson linked with a move, but the most concrete interest could be in Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian striker is available in the market following his failure to join Arsenal this summer, despite the Gunners holding protracted negotiations with his camp and RB Leipzig.

Arsenal were frustrated on multiple fronts when negotiating for the attacker with 27 goals and assists last summer. There were rumours of his wage demands being high among one of the reasons for the Gunners to back away from the deal. Eventually, Arsenal decided against signing him as they have since chosen Gyokeres as their main target, although there’s still big interest in the Slovenian.

Manchester United step up Benjamin Sesko chase

Manchester United are sniffing around the opportunity to sign Sesko, with reports stating they are moving towards concrete negotiations for the 27 G/A striker. Newcastle United are also keen, but it appears the Red Devils might have an upper hand for the Slovenian attacker.

Should Sesko arrive at Old Trafford, he could take up the No.9 position, which could potentially see the club opening the doors for Hojlund to depart. Sesko reportedly has a release clause between €70-80 million, although during the negotiations with Arsenal, it became clear that RB Leipzig are not willing to reduce, and in fact, they are eager to demand more than the clause to structure a deal, which might prove challenging.
