Manchester United remain keen on Morten Hjulmand; Barcelona, Tottenham also keen

Manchester United are still in the race for Morten Hjulmand despite the Juventus links, as Barcelona and Tottenham are also looking at him closely.

According to Caught Offside, Morten Hjulmand could yet emerge as a realistic target for Manchester United this summer. Despite links to Juventus and reports claiming an agreement on personal terms, the Italians’ inability to agree on a fee with Sporting CP could allow the likes of the Red Devils, Barcelona and Tottenham back into the mix.

Morten Hjulmand has been silently doing his job in Sporting CP’s midfield in the last few years, without getting much credit. The goalscoring prowess of Viktor Gyokeres often gets the limelight that someone like Hjulmand probably deserves, although the midfielder has been consistently showcasing his quality in the middle of the park.

There have been strong rumours that the midfielder is keen to leave Sporting CP, with Juventus the closest so far to make a move. The Bianconeri reportedly have an agreement in place on personal terms with the midfielder, but their inability to offer more than €40 million has the potential to derail a move.

Hjulmand has an €80 million release clause in his contract, though the report claims Sporting CP would be open to accepting around €50 million. There have been some teams interested, including Tottenham and Barcelona, with the duo likely to stay interested until any potential deal progresses.

Spurs, for instance, have been keen on the midfielder for some time now, and while they are chasing the likes of Ardon Jashari, Hjulmand could be viewed as a good option. They also have good relations with Sporting CP, although it will be difficult to convince them to sell below their asking price. For financial reasons alone, Barcelona are mere observers and unlikely to use their limited funds on a new midfielder.

Manchester United are interested in Morten Hjulmand

Manchester United were interested in Hjulmand and could view the impasse with Juventus as an opportunity to make their move. Ruben Amorim knows the player well from their time together at Sporting CP, and as his team needs an energetic midfield presence like the Dane, a move could be in the realm of possibility.

There are further links to Gabriel Sara of Galatasaray, as there’s a clear indication that Amorim wants a new midfield presence in his squad. Hence, the Hjulmand links could have some legs to it, as Manchester United may pursue a deal if the conditions are right around the €50m-rated midfielder Amorim knows well.
