Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahce will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old Jamaican international Leon Bailey on loan from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Turkish outlet Sporx, Leon Bailey is the subject of interest from Fenerbahce. The Turkish giants are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the Aston Villa winger has emerged as a target for the Yellow Canaries.
The Turkish Super Lig heavyweights are in talks with the West Midlands outfit to seal a summer deal for the former Bayer Leverkusen winger. However, Fenerbahce will aim to complete a loan move for Bailey, while Aston Villa will look to recoup €25-30 million from his sale. Meanwhile, they are ready to meet the player’s salary demands as they look to secure an agreement.
Leon Bailey and his situation
Leon Bailey has come leaps and bounds since joining Aston Villa from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2021, but he has reached a crossroads in his career after an underwhelming 2024/25 campaign. The Kingston native was in and out of the starting lineup throughout the season, and he fell in the pecking order after Aston Villa signed Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio earlier this year.
The 27-year-old managed only 2,072 minutes of game time across 38 appearances across all competitions while chipping in with two goals and seven assists. So, it is hardly surprising that the Jamaican international faces an uncertain future at Aston Villa. Bailey’s next destination may be Turkiye, with Fenerbahce among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Will Bailey continue his career in Turkiye?
Fenerbahce’s interest in Leon Bailey makes sense. The Yellow Canaries are combing the market for a versatile wide attacker this summer as they aim to usurp Galatasaray to scale the summit of Turkish football next season. So, several candidates, including Leandro Trossard, have emerged on Fenerbahce’s radar, with Bailey also a viable target.
The Turkish Super Lig heavyweights have already been active in the market, signing Jhon Duran, Archie Brown, and Tarik Cetin thus far. Meanwhile, Bailey has no future at Aston Villa, with the West Midlands outfit demanding €25-30 million to part ways with him in the summer transfer window. However, Fenerbahce will look to secure his services on loan.
With Fenerbahce unwilling to fork out €25-30 million to sign Bailey in the summer transfer window, a long round of negotiations may be on the cards. However, the Turkish giants are ready to meet the 27-year-old Jamaican international attacker’s salary demands. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the former Bayer Leverkusen winger.
