Tottenham Hotspur will have to fork out £50 million to acquire the services of Burnley defensive mainstay Maxime Esteve.
While Tottenham had a slow start to the transfer window, they have certainly picked up the pace in recent weeks. Thomas Frank’s team have signed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United and have an agreement in place to sign Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest.
The North Londoners have already bolstered their attack and are now looking to add more quality to their backline. They are keen on signing Maxime Esteve, who played a massive part in Burnley’s return to the Premier League. According to a report from Give Me Sport, Tottenham will have to fork out close to £50 million to sign the French youth international.
Maxime Esteve came up the ranks at Montpellier and made a name for himself while playing for their first team before joining the Clarets at the start of 2024. Initially, it was a loan deal, but the move was made permanent the following summer.
Last season, the 23-year-old centre-back was involved in all their league games, and his performances did play a big part in their promotion. While there was interest in his services during the winter window, Burnley managed to keep hold of their star.
Spurs won’t find it easy to sign Esteve
However, their resolve will be tested yet again this summer as multiple clubs are keen on his signature. Tottenham are one of the clubs that want to sign the French youth international as Thomas Frank looks for fresh competition for the likes of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
Maxime Esteve will not only add depth to their backline, but he could also turn out to be one of their mainstays in the long run. While Spurs are in talks with Burnley regarding a potential transfer, the deal certainly won’t be that straightforward.
The newly promoted Premier League club have no intentions of parting ways with the young centre-back and have slapped a £50 million price tag to deter suitors. While Spurs are willing to try their luck, they certainly believe the price tag is a touch on the higher side.
They may need some help from the player to convince Burnley to lower their demands. He may need to push for a move away to help Spurs sign him for something close to £30 million, which they feel is an ideal fee for the 23-year-old.
