Aston Villa will reportedly look to sign 34-year-old Dutch goalkeeper Marco Bizot from Ligue 1 club Stade Brestois 29 in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Marco Bizot is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties around Emiliano Martinez’s long-term future. So, the 34-year-old Stade Brestois 29 shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the West Midlands outfit.
Meanwhile, the Dutchman is also a target for Leeds United, with the newly promoted Premier League club keen on signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. However, the Whites are behind Aston Villa in the battle for Bizot’s signature.
Marco Bizot and his career so far
Marco Bizot has established himself as one of the most dependable goalkeepers in Ligue 1 since joining Stade Brestois 29 from AZ Alkmaar in August 2021. A native of Horn, the 34-year-old shot-stopper spent his formative years in the Netherlands and graduated from the youth division at Ajax.
However, the Dutch goalkeeper has risen in prominence in the last half a decade, going from strength to strength during his spell with Stade Brestois 29. Bizot has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for Brest while keeping 40 clean sheets and conceding 213 goals. Meanwhile, his progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Aston Villa and Leeds United.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Aston Villa’s interest in Marco Bizot is understandable. The Villans are scouring the market for a goalkeeper this summer amid uncertainties surrounding Emiliano Martinez’s long-term future. In addition, they have parted ways with Robin Olsen as a free agent. So, Aston Villa must sign a goalkeeper this summer, with the Dutchman emerging as a viable target.
As for Leeds United, Illan Meslier has failed to impress in the last few seasons, and he was dreadful in the 2024/25 campaign. So, the Whites want a new first-choice goalkeeper, with several shot-stoppers, including Lucas Perri, emerging on the radar. However, Bizot is also an option worth considering.
