AS Roma contemplate Rasmus Hojlund swoop

AS Roma will reportedly look to sign 22-year-old Danish international Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Rasmus Hojlund is the subject of interest from AS Roma. The Serie A giants are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old struggling Manchester United centre-forward has emerged as a target for the Giallorossi.

Manchester United will demand around €45-50 million to part ways with the Dane in the summer transfer window. However, a summer move for Hojlund will hinge on AS Roma’s ability to cash in on Artem Dovbyk. Meanwhile, the Serie A giants have other strikers on their wishlist, including Evan Ferguson and Nikola Krstovic.

Rasmus Hojlund and his Manchester United misery

Rasmus Hojlund has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Manchester United from Atalanta in a big-money deal in August 2023. The 22-year-old was exceptional in his debut season at Old Trafford but was dreadful in his second campaign with the Red Devils, lacking confidence to find pockets of space in the final third.

The Danish international managed only ten goals and four assists in 52 appearances across all competitions, with only four strikes coming in the Premier League in 32 outings. However, the Manchester United striker’s stock in the market is high, with several well-known clubs, including AS Roma, vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Serie A return on the horizon?

AS Roma’s interest in Rasmus Hojlund is understandable. The Serie A giants are scouring the market for a striker this summer after Tammy Abraham’s permanent move away from Stadio Olimpico. In addition, Artem Dovbyk faces an uncertain future at AS Roma after an indifferent debut campaign with the Giallorossi.

Several candidates, including Evan Ferguson, have emerged on AS Roma’s radar, with Hojlund also being a viable target. The 22-year-old Dane already has experience in Serie A with Atalanta and may not take long to settle down at Stadio Olimpico, considering he is familiar with Gian Piero Gasperini’s system. Meanwhile, Manchester United will demand around €45-50 million to part ways with the struggling striker, who does not feature in the Red Devils’ plans.

However, forking out €45-50 million to sign Hojlund will be a tall order unless the Serie A giants cash in on Dovbyk in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Danish international has also been on Inter Milan’s radar. However, Manchester United’s talks with the Nerazzurri have stalled in the last few days.
