Liverpool and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing 19-year-old Moroccan wonderkid Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal from Ligue 1 club Amiens SC this summer.
According to a report by Moroccan outlet Sport 360, Liverpool and Newcastle United are keen on signing Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal in the summer transfer window. The two Premier League clubs have already made their moves to sign the teenage sensation from Ligue 1 Stade Rennais club in the coming weeks.
While the Reds have sent a “concrete offer” to the Marrakech native, the Magpies have met the youngster’s entourage to discuss a possible move. Meanwhile, Liverpool and Newcastle United face stiff competition from Ligue 1 clubs OGC Nice and LOSC Lille, with a summer exit from Stade Rennais on the cards.
Who is Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal?
Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal is the latest highly-rated prospect to rise in prominence in France. The country has witnessed the advent of prodigies like Ayyoub Bouaddi, Eliesse Ben Seghir, and Maghnes Akliouche, among others. Ait Boudlal is among the defenders to make their mark in Ligue 1.
A native of Marrakech, the Moroccan defensive sensation spent his formative years in his homeland before moving to France by joining Stade Rennais last summer. The Ligue 1 club loaned him to Amiens SC earlier this year, and he has turned out nine times for the Ligue 2 outfit. Meanwhile, Ait Boudlal’s progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting high-profile clubs like Liverpool and Newcastle United.
A man in demand
Liverpool’s interest in Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal is understandable. The Reds have started planning for life after Virgil van Dijk, with the veteran Dutch defender approaching the twilight of his career. In addition, Joe Gomez faces an uncertain future at Anfield, compelling Liverpool to scour the market for a young centre-back.
As for Newcastle United, Sven Botman has struggled with fitness issues during his stint with the Tyneside outfit. In addition, Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, and Jamaal Lascelles are on the wrong side of 30. So, several candidates, including Fikayo Tomori, have emerged on Newcastle United’s radar.
While Liverpool recently submitted a “concrete offer” to the 19-year-old Moroccan defensive sensation, Newcastle United met the youngster’s entourage. In addition, the Premier League clubs face competition from LOSC Lille and OGC Nice for the teenage prospect. So, it will be interesting to see if his short stint with Stade Rennais ends in the summer transfer window.
