Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is leading the club’s push to secure a permanent deal for Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel.
According to SportBILD via Sport Witness, Daniel Levy is determined to secure the long-term future of Mathys Tel. He is a huge admirer of the French youth international and believes the forward could become a key figure for the club in the years to come. Tottenham already have a purchase option in his loan deal but are looking to renegotiate a lower fee.
Tel came up the ranks and made a name for himself while playing for Stade Rennais’ first team before he made the move to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022. While the German giants are well aware of his abilities and immense potential, they have yet to provide him with consistent first-team opportunities.
Despite putting in impressive performances last season in his limited opportunities, the 20-year-old hardly got any chance to fight for a place in the team. Frustrated at the lack of minutes during the first half, he ended up making the move to Tottenham in the winter transfer window.
While there was no shortage of interest in him, Spurs won the race as they secured his services on a short loan (€10 million loan fee) with a purchase option worth €60 million. He has been a regular feature for the North London club but hasn’t really made the most out of it. In his 18 outings across competitions, he has only four goal contributions.
Levy is pushing for Tel’s signature
Despite Mathys Tel’s mixed performances, Daniel Levy appears to have great faith in the French youngster. He is the driving force behind Spurs’ interest in signing the 20-year-old versatile forward. While Levy is eager to bring him to the club, he is not willing to trigger the €60 million buy-out clause and is instead looking to renegotiate a lower fee, something Bayern seem open to.
Although they are reluctant to pay the full amount, Tottenham’s continued interest in Tel despite his inconsistency is a boost for Bayern Munich, who are prepared to move him on. The German club are ready to negotiate, with the Frenchman currently valued at around €40 million. It remains unclear how much Spurs are willing to spend, but Bayern are hopeful of securing a decent fee, given Levy’s determination to get the deal done.
