Liverpool set to reject Denzel Dumfries, Jeremie Frimpong moves

Manchester United are ready to swap Victor Lindelof to land Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries.

Liverpool are likely to snub moves for Denzel Dumfries and Jeremie Frimpong for stylistic reasons as they continue the search for a new right-back.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are unlikely to make moves for Dutch right-back pair Denzel Dumfries and Jeremie Frimpong in the summer. The duo are not seen as a stylistic fit under Arne Slot’s system despite their productive nature as players, and the Merseysiders could be on the lookout for a different profile to fill the right-back position.

Liverpool are set to prioritise a move for a new right-back following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave the club in the summer. The homegrown England international defender has been a tremendous performer for the Reds since his breakthrough into the team, and he is now expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

The club will have to spend significantly on a replacement, with a few options being discussed in media reports. One of them could be Manchester United-linked Denzel Dumfries, who has been sensational for Inter Milan, in a right wing-back role, as stories have stated the 29-year-old could be a target for Arne Slot.

Liverpool are also linked with Jeremie Frimpong, who reportedly has a €35-40 million release clause. Both those Dutch wide players could be available in the summer, with the Bayer Leverkusen star seemingly open to joining the Merseysiders if an offer came through from the club.

As per the current story, Liverpool are likely to snub moves for the productive Dutch duo, who are excellent as wing-backs rather than full-backs. The issue is their application in defence, as neither are known to have the nous to be part of a traditional back-four. Hence, Liverpool might prioritise a player who provides the right balance on both sides of the pitch rather than excelling in only one aspect of the game.

Liverpool looking for a new right-back option

The idea of signing Frimpong or Dumfries might have excited the fans, as they could be the closest to the profile of Alexander-Arnold. The departing Liverpool star also had questions about his defensive side of the game, and Arne Slot potentially feels his team might now need a different profile, that brings about the right balance on both ends of the pitch.

Hence, the links with AS Monaco’s Vanderson make more sense compared to the likes of Dumfries or Frimpong in this aspect. Whether the Brazilian is an achievable target remains to be seen, as it’s not centered around his availability but the price tag he may carry when the summer transfer window opens.
