Liverpool are already working on a long-term Mohamed Salah replacement as Arne Slot wants a successor waiting in the wings when the Egyptian departs.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool are working on a readymade Mohamed Salah replacement and could make a move for a player in the upcoming summer window. Arne Slot wants a player ready to succeed the Egyptian when he eventually leaves Anfield, as some options are being considered as per the story.
Liverpool did exceptionally well to retain the services of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk for two more years. The duo were on the verge of leaving the club on a free as the two key stars signed two-year extensions.
Salah in particular has been instrumental for Liverpool after posting his best season at the club since his arrival many years ago. The Egyptian has 32 goals and 23 assists across all competitions, as he has been single-handedly responsible for the club inching close to the Premier League title.
Liverpool would have had to spend a huge sum to replace him had he left the club this summer. The club are now prepared to bring a long-term successor to the Egyptian now rather than when he leaves, as Arne Slot wants to prepare for the future to have a readymade option in the wings.
There are some names linked with Liverpool over the last few months who could be viewed as Salah’s potential long-term replacement. There are names like Ousmane Dembele linked, although the Frenchman might not be the ideal candidate given his name and status in the game, as the Merseysiders might target someone younger.
Who could replace Mohamed Salah at Liverpool?
Chelsea target Jamie Gittens is being linked by the report alongside Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo. However, there are other names on Liverpool’s list of a younger variety, with RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons seen as a viable target either to replace Salah or simply come into their attack to take up another front three position possibly on the left instead of Luis Diaz.
Rayan Cherki is another name on their list, as the Frenchman could be a much cheaper alternative to other names like Gittens, Semenyo or Simons. Either way, Arne Slot wants a player to come in now to keep the future Salah replacement ready when the Egyptian eventually leaves the club.
