Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up to make an offer for Barcelona utility man Eric Garcia.
According to a report from Fichajes, Tottenham are keen on reinforcing their defence ahead of next season and they have their eyes set on Barcelona’s Eric Garcia. The Spanish defender is not an important part of Hansi Flick’s plans and they could look to cash in on him for the right price.
Garcia started at La Masia but he made the switch to Manchester City in the summer of 2017. He went up the ranks at got promoted to their first team in 2019. After two years with Pep Guardiola’s first team, where opportunities were limited, he secured a return to Barcelona.
The 24-year-old has failed to establish himself as a key figure in the team. He spent the last season out on loan at Girona. While the loan move did work out in his favour, it hasn’t helped him cement his spot in Hansi Flick’s team.
He has been involved in a total of 35 games but he has only racked up 1,500 minutes of first-team action. His versatility has come in handy but he is not an important part of Flick’s plans. As a result, there is a lot of uncertainty about his future at the club.
Since Garcia will only have a year left on his deal in the summer, the Catalan giants could cash in on him if the right offer arrives. Tottenham have emerged as a potential destination for the Spanish international.
Tottenham keen on signing Eric Garcia
The North London club do have some quality options in central defence but they seek more depth at the back. Garcia is an attractive option for them as he can feature in the heart of the defence, as a right-back as well as a defensive midfielder.
Since he is only 24, he could still prove to be a great long-term acquisition for the club. As a result, they are willing to table an offer worth around €15 million to sign the Spanish defender. It will be interesting to see if Barcelona consider this offer to be good enough.
Meanwhile, the player might love to secure a return to the Premier League with Spurs. He could have a much bigger role at the North London club and since he has the experience of playing for Manchester City, it won’t be that difficult for him to adjust to his new surroundings. While Tottenham are yet to make a formal offer, they could soon accelerate talks to sign the versatile defender.
