Everton told to break the bank to sign Jarell Quansah

Everton have been told to go all out to land Liverpool sensation Jarell Quansah in the summer transfer window.

Everton’s ambitious plan to strengthen their defense this summer may require a bold and unlikely move, prying Jarell Quansah away from Liverpool. However, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke admitted on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that he’d be “very surprised” to see the 21-year-old cross Stanley Park. Quansah is currently regarded as one of Liverpool’s most promising young talents and is tied to a long-term deal at Anfield.

Despite reported interest from both Everton and Newcastle United, sources close to Liverpool have stated that the club is not inclined to part ways with Quansah unless presented with a “too good to turn down” offer. As a homegrown talent and with Trent Alexander-Arnold expected to leave, Liverpool view Quansah as an important part of their long-term plans, making his potential exit even more unlikely.

While Arne Slot may have doubts over Quansah’s place as a first-choice starter, that alone is not expected to push the club into selling him. Newcastle United appear to be the more realistic destination for the young defender, with the Magpies would need to pay upwards of £30 million to sign him. Everton’s financial strategy does not support such a big outlay, unless Jarrad Branthwaite departs, freeing up resources.

Adding to the intrigue, Everton are also reportedly eyeing Liverpool’s Ben Doak in a surprising £30 million swoop. But with both targets deeply embedded in Liverpool’s future vision, the Toffees may need to focus their transfer efforts elsewhere.

Branthwaite’s Future Key to Everton’s Defensive Plans

While a move for Quansah appears improbable, Everton manager David Moyes has more pressing concerns, chief among them retaining Jarrad Branthwaite. The 22-year-old centre-back has been linked with Manchester United in recent windows, but ex-United scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that a renewed bid from the Red Devils this summer looks unlikely. Nevertheless, Branthwaite remains a top target for many Premier League clubs.

Should Branthwaite stay at Goodison Park, Everton’s need for another expensive centre-back would decrease significantly. In the meantime, Moyes has been proactive in identifying potential replacements. Burnley’s Maxime Estève has emerged as a primary target, seen as a more attainable option compared to Quansah or other high-profile defenders.

While Esteve is a regular at Turf Moor, the Clarets’ likely relegation could open the door for a deal. For Everton, the path forward may not lie in unlikely cross-city transfers, but in smart, pragmatic signings that solidify their backline ahead of the new campaign.
