Real Madrid contemplate Pau Torres swoop

Real Madrid might look to sign 28-year-old Spanish international Pau Torres from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Pau Torres is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. So, the 28-year-old Aston Villa defender has emerged as a target for Los Blancos.

Pau Torres and his Aston Villa journey

Pau Torres has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League since joining Aston Villa from Villarreal in July 2023. The Spaniard has come leaps and bounds in the last two years, even though a few fitness issues have plagued him in each campaign.

The 28-year-old has turned out over 50 times thus far for Aston Villa while chipping in with two goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Torres’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A return to La Liga might be on the cards for the player, with Real Madrid among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

La Liga return on the horizon?

Real Madrid’s interest in the Spanish international is understandable. The reigning La Liga champions are keen on reinforcing their central defensive unit in the summer transfer window after being down to the bare bones in two successive seasons.

David Alaba missed over a year due to a long-term knee issue, while Eder Militao has suffered two season-ending knee injuries in as many campaigns. In addition, Alaba and Antonio Rudiger are on the wrong side of 30, while Jesus Vallejo has a non-existent future at Real Madrid. So, several candidates, including Antonio Silva, have emerged on Los Blancos’ radar, with Pau Torres also a viable target.

The 28-year-old Spaniard is already well-versed in La Liga after spending several seasons with Villarreal. So, the Aston Villa centre-back should not take long to settle down at the Santiago Bernabeu if he joins Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

However, convincing Aston Villa to cash in on the Spanish international might be a tall order, considering the player’s importance to Unai Emery’s team. So, it will be interesting to see if a summer move sees the light of day.
