Newcastle United ecstatic after winning Antonio Cordero race

Newcastle United have secured the signing of Malaga sensation Antonio Cordero, fending off interest from Arsenal, Barcelona, and Real Madrid.

According to Graeme Bailey via TBR, Newcastle United have won the race for the services of Antonio Cordero. The Magpies are thrilled to have secured the Malaga sensation’s signature, fending off interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs in the process.

Cordero has come up the ranks at Malaga and has featured in a total of 53 matches for their first team. He has been involved in a total of 33 games this season and has contributed 11 goals. The 18-year-old winger has made quite a name for himself with his impressive rise.

Newcastle win race for Cordero

With his contract set to expire at the end of the season and the teenager reluctant to sign an extension, several top clubs were vying for his signature, but it’s Newcastle, who have been tracking him for nearly a year, that have ultimately won the race.

While speaking to TBR, Bailey said: “Newcastle are over-the-moon with this signing, they have been on Cordero’s trail for over 12 months and have put a lot of work into it.

“A host of other clubs had talks, with him but the player has opted for Newcastle, and this isn’t them just paying over the odds and blowing other offers away, the player sees Newcastle as his best option which is really satisfying to them.”

Newcastle have built an exciting project under Eddie Howe since their takeover back in 2021, and they recently ended the club’s nearly 70-year-long wait for silverware. While marquee signings remain on the radar for the summer, the Magpies continue to keep a close eye on emerging young talent to secure their long-term future.

They consider Cordero a great prospect and have been working on a potential transfer for some time. The Magpies are delighted that the teenager has accepted their offer and has signed his pre-contract. He will be joining them after the ongoing season comes to an end.

The Tyneside club are thrilled with the deal, having successfully convinced the highly-rated youngster that Newcastle’s project is the ideal next step in his career. Impressively, they didn’t have to overpay to secure his signature, he chose them despite holding talks with some of the biggest clubs in world football.

European giants fail to sign Cordero

Arsenal were one of the clubs that were in talks with the 18-year-old. Even the Gunners have an exciting project at hand under Mikel Arteta, but Cordero prefers working under Howe. A report from Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Barcelona and Real Madrid were also keen on his signature.

The Spanish giants are always on the lookout for young stars who can help them in the long run. His impressive performances in the Spanish second division had caught their attention, and they were closely monitoring him ahead of a potential move. But the player has snubbed them in favour of joining the Magpies.
