Leon Goretzka wants Bayern Munich stay amid Manchester United links

Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka reportedly wants to remain at the Allianz Arena beyond the summer transfer window amid his links with Manchester United.

According to an update by reputed German journalist Christian Falk on CF Bayern Insider, Leon Goretzka is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on signing a midfielder in the coming months and have set their sights on the Bayern Munich star. However, the German international wants to remain at the Allianz Arena beyond the summer transfer window.

Leon Goretzka and his Bayern Munich journey

Leon Goretzka has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Bayern Munich from FC Schalke 04 in July 2018. The experienced midfielder was among the most promising young midfielders in the world when he moved across the Bundesliga nearly seven years ago. While the player is no longer an undisputed first-choice starter for Die Roten, he has been a solid performer in the middle of the park.

The 30-year-old has turned out over 250 times thus far for Bayern Munich while chipping in with 45 goals and 47 assists. However, Goretzka’s stature has fallen in the last two years, and he has been in and out of the starting lineup in international football during this period.

Meanwhile, the German international faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena heading into the summer transfer window after entering the final 18 months of his contract. The situation has not gone unnoticed, with Manchester United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Leon Goretzka has been on Manchester United for a long time. The continued interest makes sense despite his advancing age. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro.

So, several midfielders, including Jobe Bellingham, have emerged on Manchester United’s radar, with Goretzka also a viable target. However, the Bayern Munich midfielder wants to remain at the Allianz Arena beyond the summer transfer window. While he remains committed to Die Roten, he also realises no club will match his €17 million-a-year wages.

Considering Manchester United’s recent financial issues, they will unlikely pay €17 million-a-year wages to Goretzka. Interestingly, the 30-year-old German international also blocked a winter exit from the Allianz Arena. So, it will not be surprising to see him remain at Bayern Munich beyond the summer transfer window.
