Chelsea tracking Georginio Rutter, ponder summer move

Chelsea might look to sign versatile 22-year-old French attacker Georginio Rutter from fellow Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer transfer window.

According to an update by reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Georginio Rutter is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion forward has emerged as a target for the West London club.

Who is Georginio Rutter?

Georginio Rutter has established himself as one of the most promising young attackers in the Premier League since joining Brighton & Hove Albion from Leeds United last summer. While the Frenchman had already played in the Premier League in the second half of the 2022/23 season, he could not make his mark in those six months.

However, the 22-year-old has not looked back since joining Brighton & Hove Albion, going from strength to strength, even though he has struggled with some fitness issues. Rutter has contributed to 13 goals in 2,076 minutes of game time across 34 appearances in all competitions, finding the back of the net eight times and providing five assists.

Meanwhile, Rutter’s exploits for Brighton & Hove Albion have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move across the Premier League might be on the cards for the versatile French attacker, with Chelsea among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

London calling?

Chelsea’s interest in Georginio Rutter is somewhat surprising. However, the Blues are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window. While Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu have been impressive during their spells with Chelsea, Enzo Maresca wants more firepower in the final third.

So, several candidates, including Viktor Gyokeres, have emerged on Chelsea’s radar, with Rutter also a viable target. The 22-year-old Frenchman’s versatility makes him an appealing option for the West London outfit, considering he can play across the offensive unit.

However, Chelsea’s interest in Rutter is in its early stages, and Florian Plettenberg has not revealed an asking price. So, it will be interesting to see if the Blues launch the offensive to prise the versatile French attacker away from the Amex Stadium in the summer transfer window.
