Saudi Pro League clubs are interested in signing Manchester United shot-stopper Andre Onana this summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Saudi Arabian clubs have shown strong interest in Manchester United’s Andre Onana, who continues to struggle for consistency between the sticks at Old Trafford. The clubs from the Middle East could make a move for his services this summer.
Onana was at the peak of his powers during his time at Inter Milan. His consistent performances resulted in a big-money move to the Manchester-based giants in the summer of 2023. United forked out £47 million to bring him in as David de Gea’s successor, hoping he would be a long-term solution in goal.
Unfortunately, the move hasn’t worked out as the 29-year-old hasn’t been consistent enough. He has made several costly errors leading to goals, which have significantly hurt the Red Devils over the last two seasons.
Onana’s errors were once again in the limelight as United were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final. Following his poor outing, Ruben Amorim decided to drop him from the squad for the game against Newcastle United.
The decision was taken after a face-to-face conversation between the manager and the Cameroonian international. Altay Bayindir, who replaced him between the sticks, didn’t have the best of outings against the Magpies. It will be interesting to see who gets the nod in goal for the second leg against Lyon.
Onana could be heading to the Middle East
His performances have resulted in a lot of talk about his future at the club. United seem to be considering the idea of bringing in a new goalkeeper, while Onana has been linked with a move away from the club.
Romano has revealed that there is a ‘strong, strong interest’ in the 29-year-old from the Middle East. Saudi Pro League clubs have been keeping a close eye on him since his time in Italy. While back then, Onana had his eyes set on a move to United, they could try their luck this summer.
Saudi Arabian clubs have added a lot of stars to their league in recent years, and they will be on the lookout for more opportunities this time around. Onana is an attractive option for them, and they can certainly look to strike a deal with United.
He is currently valued at around £27 million, and if United get an offer upwards of that, they can certainly look to cash in on the struggling shot-stopper. The fee should be sufficient to ensure Manchester United avoid registering a capital loss on the player.
