Leeds United are unlikely to succeed in their efforts to re-sign Archie Gray as Daniel Farke’s side anticipates Premier League football next season.
According to Football Insider, Leeds United may not be able to re-sign former midfielder Archie Gray as Tottenham consider the teenager key to their plans. The versatile star has played in multiple positions this season for Spurs, as Leeds United were thinking about bringing him back in the anticipation of playing Premier League football next season.
Leeds United have had a tremendous few days, as Daniel Farke’s side are now the leaders in the Championship. After a period of three consecutive draws, there were doubts cast on their mentality to gain automatic promotion. However, back-to-back wins over Middlesbrough and Preston, Leeds United are now leading the standings and level on points with Burnley.
More importantly, they are now five points ahead of third-placed Sheffield United, and with the amount of games left, they are very much expected to make the automatic places for promotion. Farke’s side are anticipating Premier League football, and are eager to make some key signings to suit their journey in the top flight.
One of them could be on-loan Tottenham star Manor Solomon, although they might fail in their efforts to sign another Spurs player Archie Gray. The versatile teenager only joined the North Londoners from Leeds United last summer in a £30 million deal, and now the Championship leaders are reportedly open to exploring a deal to bring him back.
As per the report, Leeds United might fail in their efforts to do so as Tottenham considers Gray as a vital part of their plans for next season The young star has played in multiple positions, especially in the backline as Spurs faced a massive injury crisis this season. Leeds United could face a similar fate in their efforts to sign Kalvin Phillips another one of their former stars, as Farke might have to choose a different route.
Tottenham unlikely to sell Archie Gray
Having invested a considerable sum in bringing the teenager from Leeds last summer, Ange Postecoglou has used him in many positions owing to an injury crisis this season. While the 19-year-old Tottenham player might have been open to the idea of playing in defence rather than his customary midfield role, he might want to play in the middle going forward.
Tottenham could view him in the middle going ahead as some of their current midfielders have underperformed this season including Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr. In any case, Gray is not expected to depart north London anytime soon, especially not to make a return to former side Leeds United, as Spurs will bank on him for the long-term future.
