Tottenham, Newcastle United, West Ham United rival Chelsea in Dilane Bakwa chase

Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and West Ham United have joined Chelsea in the race to sign 22-year-old French winger Dilane Bakwa from Ligue 1 club Strasbourg.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Dilane Bakwa has garnered a market in the Premier League with his exploits for Ligue 1 club RC Strasbourg. Chelsea, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United are keen on signing the French attacking sensation in the summer transfer window.

Who is Dilane Bakwa?

Dilane Bakwa has established himself as one of the best young prospects in Ligue 1 since joining RC Strasbourg from Bordeaux in August 2023. A native of Creteil, the Frenchman spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at FC Boissy and US Lusitanos Saint-Maur before graduating from the youth division at Girondins Bordeaux.

The 22-year-old has gone from strength to strength since joining RC Strasbourg, and he has been exceptional this term. Bakwa has contributed to 13 goals in 26 Ligue 1 appearances, finding the back of the net four times and providing nine assists. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Chelsea, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United.

A man in demand

Chelsea’s interest in the RC Strasbourg winger makes sense. The West London club might not keep Jadon Sancho at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer transfer window, while Mykhailo Mudryk faces an uncertain future at the West London club. So, the French attacking sensation has emerged as a viable target for Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United’s interest in Dilane Bakwa is understandable. The Tyneside outfit parted ways with Miguel Almiron in the winter transfer window but did not replace him in the same window. So, Bakwa is an option worth considering for Newcastle United. As for Tottenham Hotspur, Richarlison faces an uncertain future at the North London club.

So, Tottenham must sign a wide attacker in the summer transfer window, with Bakwa a viable target. As for West Ham United, Mohammed Kudus faces an uncertain future at the London Stadium amid links with Premier League bigwigs and Saudi Pro League outfits.

Chelsea should have an advantage in the race to sign Bakwa, considering they share owners with RC Strasbourg. However, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle United, Tottenham, and West Ham can make headway in the chase.
