Real Madrid will reportedly look to sign 21-year-old Portuguese defender Antonio Silva from SL Benfica in a deal worth €30 million in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Antonio Silva is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are combing the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the SL Benfica defender. They are ready to offer €30 million to sign the Portuguese international, whose asking price is worth €35 million.
Antonio Silva and his career so far
Antonio Silva has established himself as one of the best young defensive prospects in the world since breaking into the first-team squad at SL Benfica. A native of Viseu, the highly-regarded centre-back began his youth career in his hometown but graduated from the fabled academy at SL Benfica.
The 21-year-old has been a regular for SL Benfica in the last few seasons, although he has been in and out of the starting lineup this term. Nevertheless, Silva has amassed over 3,000 minutes of game time across 35 appearances in all competitions while chipping in with one goal and two assists.
Meanwhile, Silva’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Recent reports have linked the Portuguese international with Chelsea. However, Real Madrid will aim to beat the competition to the youngster’s signature heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, SL Benfica will demand around €35 million to part ways with him.
La Liga adventure beckoning?
Antonio Silva has been on Real Madrid’s radar for a long time. The continued interest in the highly-regarded SL Benfica centre-back is understandable, considering Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are on the wrong side of 30. In addition, Eder Militao is recovering from a second long-term knee injury in as many years.
So, Real Madrid can do with a centre-back in the summer transfer window, with Silva emerging as a viable target. The reigning La Liga champions have reportedly submitted a package worth €30 million to sign the talented defender. It will include a base fee of €26 million and €4 million in add-ons.
However, with Benfica demanding €35 million to part ways with the 21-year-old Portuguese international, it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid can secure his services in a package worth €30 million in the summer transfer window.
