Newcastle United have run rule over Yahia Fofana

Newcastle United have watched Yahia Fofana in action as Eddie Howe is keen to recruit a new goalkeeper to compete with Nick Pope.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United have had scouts watching Yahia Fofana in action recently as they consider a move for the Angers goalkeeper. The Ivorian is attracting big interest from other clubs too as he could be a viable option for the Magpies compared to some of their other targets ahead of the summer.

Newcastle United are planning some key changes to their side as they anticipate a route back to Champions League football. Among the many players in key positions that Eddie Howe will want, the manager also seeks a new goalkeeper to compete with Nick Pope.

Martin Dubravka could be out of the club in the close season, as Howe has several players on his shortlist ahead of the summer. Newcastle United are interested in James Trafford following the keeper’s consistent performances for Championship side Burnley, although he will be expensive.

Newcastle United are also keen on Aaron Ramsdale, who has a reported £25 million release clause, as the former Arsenal star is keen to stay in the Premier League after suffering his third top-flight relegation, this time with Southampton. In any case, the Magpies will think twice before considering his asking price.

There’s another option, potentially cheaper than either of those two English stars as Newcastle United are interested in Yahia Fofana. The Ivory Coast keeper has been a steady presence between the sticks for Angers, and while he enters the final year of his deal, there’s a big chance of him being available at a very reasonable price.
