Tottenham keen on Eric Garcia

Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Eric Garcia in the summer, as the versatile Barcelona player could be made available for a knocked-down price.

According to Fichajes, Eric Garcia is a name that Tottenham admires ahead of the summer, with the 24-year-old Barcelona utility man reportedly available for sale. The versatile defender may not have a place in Hansi Flick’s plans, which could see the Catalan side cash in on him, as Spurs may have to make a good enough proposal.

Eric Garcia has shown his worth for Barcelona during the period he has been with the club. The defender was signed on a free transfer from Manchester City, and now he may have a chance to make a return to England as his career at the Catalan side winds down.

Signed with plenty of promise, the best spell for Garcia during his time in La Liga came with Girona last season on loan when he helped the club make it to the Champions League. At Barcelona, the 24-year-old has been used in multiple roles, especially in a defensive midfield position, where he has been excellent.

However, with an abundance of options in the central defensive roles as well as in central midfield, Garcia’s place has come under threat ahead of next season. The 24-year-old Barcelona utility man’s contract runs out in 2026, and with no signs of a renewal in sight, the Catalans might sell him to bring some necessary funds in the summer.

Garcia was reported for sale in January, which did alert a few Premier League sides of his availability. Some of those sides might be in the mix for him ahead of the summer, with the possibility of acquiring the 24-year-old Barcelona utility man in a cut-price deal, as Tottenham are now interested in the versatile defender.

Tottenham are interested in Eric Garcia

Tottenham are looking closely at some of the defenders available in the market as they continue to sweat on the future of Cristian Romero. They have Atalanta’s Isak Hien in their sights as a potential replacement option, while there are links to AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori.

The idea behind chasing Garcia could be interesting and sensible for Spurs, as they could get a player who can occupy two key positions in the squad they have struggled with. His profile is very similar to that of young star Archie Gray, as it will take a monumental effort from Tottenham to convince Garcia to make the switch, as some other clubs are expected to join in the race.
