Jakub Kiwior is keen to leave Arsenal in the summer, with the Polish defender likely to prefer a switch back to Serie A.
According to TBR, Jakub Kiwior could be heading out of Arsenal in the summer, with the defender keen to take up a more prominent role. The Polish international may prefer a move back to Serie A, where he was having a settled career until his move to the Emirates.
Jakub Kiwior was signed with a lot of promise in the January window of 2023, as Arsenal were chasing the Premier League title. The defender has produced decent performances as he will complete two and a half seasons at the Emirates in the summer, as this campaign could be his last here.
While he has appreciated his role under Mikel Arteta, the Polish international has been unable to break the central defensive partnership of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes. The Brazilian defender is set for talks over a new deal, which could further scupper Kiwior’s chances to stake a starting place.
The events of the past few weeks did provide massive hope for the 25-year-old, as Gabriel was ruled out for the remainder of the season. Kiwior was a top performer in Arsenal’s stellar win over Real Madrid on Tuesday night at the Emirates, and could yet write a beautiful story with the Gunners in the Champions League as he’s set to retain his place in the absence of Gabriel for the rest of the campaign.
However, once Gabriel returns from his injury at the start of next season, he could once again relegate Kiwior to a role on the bench. Moreover, he faces competition in the other position at left-back where he was used extensively by Arteta last season. Hence, it’s probably in the 25-year-old’s best interest to depart the north Londoners in the summer, something the defender is already thinking loudly.
Jakub Kiwior wants Serie A return
Kiwior was pencilled for a return to Serie A last summer as soon as Riccardo Calafiori arrived at Arsenal. It was probably Arteta’s decision to keep hold of him. However, come the summer window, Kiwior will be looking to leave for a prominent role elsewhere, as he does have interest from the likes of Bayer Leverkusen.
The 25-year-old seemingly prefers a return to Italy, where Napoli are interested in the defender, as he could thrive under Antonio Conte. Juventus have also held an interest in the Pole, although it remains to be seen where the Arsenal man joins, as some performances like the one against Real Madrid will improve his chances of a big move.
