Chelsea step up interest in David Hancko with fresh contact

Premier League giants Chelsea have reportedly established fresh contact to discuss a possible summer move for David Hancko, a target for Liverpool and Tottenham.

According to a report by Caught Offside, David Hancko is the subject of interest from Chelsea. Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on signing the Feyenoord defender in the summer transfer window. However, the Blues have “made fresh contact” to sign the Slovakian international, with the Eredivisie club demanding €50 million to part ways with him.

David Hancko and his career so far

David Hancko has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Eredivisie since joining Feyenoord from Sparta Praha in August 2022. A native of Prievidza, the Slovak spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at three clubs and graduating from the youth division at MSK Zilina.

The 27-year-old then struggled for stability before landing on his feet at Feyenoord. Hancko has turned out nearly 150 times thus for the Eredivisie outfit while chipping in with 15 goals and 12 assists. Meanwhile, the player’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham.

A man in demand

Chelsea will likely dip into the market for a centre-back in the summer transfer window. While the Blues have a stacked defensive unit, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, and Trevoh Chalobah face an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. So, Hancko has emerged as a viable target for Chelsea, with the West London club establishing fresh contact over a summer move.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s interest in David Hancko is understandable. The Reds are in a spot of bother over Virgil van Dijk’s long-term future, with the Dutch defender in the final few months of his contract. So, the Slovakian defender is an option worth considering, with Liverpool having the funds to afford a deal worth €50 million to secure his services.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, Kevin Danso will complete a permanent move to the North London club in the summer transfer window. However, Cristian Romero faces an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium amid his links with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. So, the Lilywhites have set their sights on the 27-year-old Slovak.

Meanwhile, Feyenoord will demand around €50 million to part ways with Hancko. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool and Tottenham respond to Chelsea’s latest efforts to sign the Slovakian international from the Eredivisie club.
