Newcastle United are looking to raid Southampton for the signature of Bournemouth goalkeeping target Aaron Ramsdale.
According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle United are looking to sign a new shot-stopper ahead of next season, and they have their eyes set on Aaron Ramsdale, who is set to be available for a cut-price fee this summer.
After falling down the pecking order at Arsenal, Ramsdale ended up making the move to Southampton in search of a more prominent role. While the Englishman has featured in a total of 23 league games, he has not been able to help the Saints survive the drop.
With Southampton’s relegation to the Championship now certain following their defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Ramsdale’s future has become one of the biggest talking points. The 26-year-old has a relegation clause in his contract worth around £25 million, and clubs are gearing up to make a move for him.
Newcastle United and Bournemouth are two clubs that are keen on signing him. The Cherries are yet to make a decision on the future of Kepa Arrizabalaga, who is currently on loan from Chelsea. Despite that, they are looking at other options.
According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Aaron Ramsdale is quite high on Bournemouth’s wishlist. The English international is open to a return to the Vitality Stadium, having enjoyed a lot of success there back in the day. Meanwhile, he is still based around the Bournemouth area, which certainly plays a part in his desire.
Newcastle United could push for Ramsdale’s signature
Bournemouth could face significant competition from the Magpies, who are looking for someone who can be their number one in the long run. Eddie Howe is a big fan of Aaron Ramsdale, having worked with him during their time together at Bournemouth.
He wants to bring him to the Tyneside club, and they are considering making a move for the 26-year-old Englishman. While they do have Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka in their squad and have handed the latter a new deal amidst interest from the Middle East, Newcastle United are still looking for a long-term replacement for the duo, who are 33 and 36, respectively.
While Howe considers the English international an ideal long-term goalkeeper for his team, the financial side of things could complicate a potential transfer as the Magpies are not willing to spend around £25 million on a new goalkeeper this summer.
